A building with a story

Before It Was The Sip

The building has served the local community in several different ways since it was first constructed in 1955. Today, The Sip carries that story forward by giving the property a new life as a neighborhood craft beer pub.

The original shop was built in 1955 by Charles Alvin “Chub” Richardson, a full-time cabinet maker.

After Chub died in 1961, the building remained in the Richardson family and went through several changes. Over the years, it was used as a body shop, a tire shop, and a ceramics shop.

Chub’s son, Marvin Richardson, later used the building as his wood shop and called the business Richcraft Wood Products. As time passed, Marvin’s son, Jay Richardson, became the proprietor.

Richcraft Wood Products still operates nearby today, continuing the family’s woodworking tradition while the original shop now serves the community in a different way as The Sip Craft Beer Pub.
